Morpho User Guide Setup 1. Add Directory and enter the output folder and project name. 2. Connect Directory to Gene Generator and Save to Population. 3. Connect the input number sliders to Gene Generator Intervals. 4. Connect Genes to the design inputs. 5. Connect Genes with Names to Data Aggregator Inputs. 6. Connect the analysis values to Data Aggregator Outputs. 7. Connect Data Aggregator to Save to Population. 8. Set the iteration limit and enable Save to Population. 9. Set Gene Generator Initiate to True to start generation. Parameter settings Mutation Probability and Spread Factor accept values from 0 to 1. Mutation Probability controls the chance of generating a random parameter. Spread Factor controls how far a child value can extend beyond its parents. Generated values remain within the input intervals. Images Add Image Capture and enter a tag for the image folder. Select a viewport from its right-click menu and connect Image to Data Aggregator. Save the Grasshopper definition to retain the selected viewport. Use the optional File input to save an image from a file instead. Images are captured after the Grasshopper solution finishes. Selecting parents Connect filters to Gene Generator Fitness Filters. Parents lists the eligible solution IDs in the connected project. Without a fitness filter, generation is random. To select IDs 46 and 73, enter each number on a separate Panel line and connect that Panel to Filter ID. Several Filter ID outputs can also connect directly to Gene Generator or through Filter AND or Filter OR. Filter ID outputs form one list of selected parents. With Filter AND, the other conditions apply to that list. For example, IDs 46 and 73 plus Weight < 40000 selects either ID only when its Weight is below 40000. Other direct fitness conditions are combined with AND. Use Filter OR when any of several conditions may match. ID and filter inputs collect all data-tree branches into one list. Typed rules Connect a Panel to Filter Expression, then connect Filter to Gene Generator. Parsed as shows how the rule is grouped. Examples: ID IN (46, 73) ID = 46 OR ID = 73 ID IN (46, 73) AND Weight < 40000 Maximum displacement < 2 AND Structure mass < 40000 TOP 20 BY Structure mass BOTTOM 10 BY Maximum displacement Comparisons: >, <, >=, <=, =, !=. The forms == and <> are also accepted. Logical operators: AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR and XOR. Use parentheses to group conditions. NOT is evaluated first, then AND, then the other binary operators. Use parentheses when mixing OR, NOR, XOR or NAND. A typed rule uses normal Boolean logic. ID = 46 AND ID = 73 matches nothing: one solution cannot have two different IDs. Use OR or ID IN to select both. NOT excludes a condition. NAND excludes matches to all conditions. NOR excludes matches to any condition. XOR selects matches to an odd number of conditions; with two conditions, exactly one must match. Parameter names use the slider or output nicknames and must match exactly. Use double quotes around names containing keywords or punctuation. Names cannot contain a double quote. Use a dot as the decimal separator. IDs and TOP or BOTTOM counts must be whole numbers. TOP and BOTTOM rank the current project. Missing values are excluded from ranking. A missing value does not satisfy its comparison or the negation of that comparison. For compound rules, the result also depends on the other conditions. Messages An invalid rule stops generation and shows an error. A missing ID or unknown parameter shows a warning. If no saved solution matches a valid filter, new parameters are generated randomly. Filters apply only to the project connected through Directory. Saved results solutions.db stores the solutions. solutions.csv contains their ID, Project, input values and output values. IDs are numbered within each project. The CSV is rebuilt from the database after a solution is saved. The previous CSV is stored as solutions.csv.bak. Manual CSV edits are replaced on the next save. Visualizer Connect Directory to Visualizer and set Show to True. Rhino 8 on Windows with modern .NET uses the embedded viewer. Rhino 7, macOS and Rhino 8 in .NET Framework mode use the default browser. Keep the Morpho Visualizer window open while viewing results so that updates remain available.
